Beginner (HSK 1) - Total Beginner

Level 1 is ideal for those who have zero experience in learning Chinese. This level is equivalent to the first year of a Chinese course in college (Chinese 101) or high school (Chinese 1). We will use the HSK 1 Standard Course for this level. A digital copy of the textbook will be shared after your official enrollment.

Students are expected to complete this level in 10-12 months.

Level 2 (HSK 2) - Beginner High

Level 2 is designed for individuals who have studied Chinese for at least 6 to 9 months and can achieve a score of 90 or above on the HSK 2 test. Students should be able to recognize at least 300 Chinese characters. It is expected that students will complete this level within 12 months. We will be using the HSK 2 Standard Course for this level.

Level 3 (HSK 3) - Intermediate Low

This level is best suited for students who have studied Chinese for at least 1.5 years or have scored 90 or higher on the HSK1 and HSK2 tests. Students should be able to read at least 600 Chinese characters. Additionally, knowledge of how to type in Chinese and read characters is necessary. While writing ability is not mandatory, it is strongly preferred.

Although this class is accessible for conversationally fluent students, it may be challenging for those who do not read or write Chinese characters.

Students are expected to complete this level in about 18 months.

Intermediate (HSK 4) - Intermediate High

Best for students who have finished HSK 3 (scored 90+ on the HSK 3 test) or who can read or mostly understand Chinese newspaper articles. Students can converse fluently in Chinese and recognize at least 1,000 Chinese characters. Students need to know how to type in Chinese.

Advanced (HSK 5 & 6)

Best for students who have studied Chinese for at least 3 years or who have scored 90 or higher on the HSK 5 test. Students need to be able to read at least 2,500 characters. Students need to know how to read and write Chinese characters.

Although this class is accessible for those who are conversationally fluent, it might be challenging for students who don’t read or write any Chinese characters.
